As a teacher of 10th grade Confirmation one question I often ask my students is "Where do you pray?" Typical responses are "in church" or "in my bedroom"; occasionally and without fail at least one student tells me he or she prays in the bathroom. "In the bathroom?", giggles another student. Every time I admit to the student that I pray in the bathroom too. My follow up question to the students is why do you pray in the spot they mentioned. Students who choose the bathroom tell me it's their alone time when no one is bothering them.
So why do we pray in the bathroom? I often find myself saying a quick prayer or seeking God's wisdom while in the bathroom. Like my students, it is my alone time when no one is bothering me.
No matter how you pray it can be difficult to find time for prayer during busy times. Take the time to pray. There is no wrong time to pray. There is not time limit. Maybe your prayer is seeking strength, a pray of thanksgiving, asking for help or answers.
Prayer can be a standard prayer, scripture reading or just a conversation between you and God.
The few minutes we may take in the bathroom may be just the right amount of time to clear our mind and be silent. We don't have the distractions of constantly technology, talking, or listening to others.
You will find that you can pray anytime, anywhere, anyhow.
